Work took me to Toronto … you may think that this is a luxury… think again after a 10 hour delay at Heathrow on the way there and then 15 hour days (ok that includes fabulous evening meals … but nevertheless) it was a very tiring 6 days.
Prior to the meeting myself and colleagues were discussing any locations around Toronto that we’d like to visit. Some may think of Lake Ontario, or Niagara Falls, but for us, it was the chance to visit Love Canal. The latter is the most famous contaminated site in the world and was the first site to bring chlorinated solvent contamination into the public arena. A village was built on top of a canal once used for chemical disposal. The vapours appeared in the basements of houses and in time caused many disturbing health effects. The village is now demolished and the canal capped, but we were interested to visit the area and see what it was like. You can see the pictures. It was an interesting, almost chilling visit.
We saw Niagara Falls also, but it was pretty humid and couldn’t see very much so we made our way to Niagara on the Lake, which is a lovely village and well away from the Neon of Niagara.
After this excursion, the work started… (along with the amazing meals in the revolving restaurant in the CN tower and in the Royal Ontario Museum)
A green grassy ghost town! 🙁
No pics of Niagara?
It was really humid and all you could see was spray really. The neon really put me off the place.
