It’s been a year since I started climbing! Well, I thought we should celebrate it somehow, so in spite of bad weather forecasts for basically all the nearby climbing areas we decided to go anyway. After all, we’ve never tried frozen fingers & toes coupled up with wet rock and muddy shoes and after such a long climbing „career†we should try „extreme†conditions. To make a long story short, this is how we ended up at the „Wasserfall Klettergarten†in Losenheim, Austria right at the foot of the the easternmost 2000-er of the Alps (Schneeberg, 2076 m). It was just right for refreshing our skills last practiced in Omis at the end of last year. Light ‘pleasure’ routes mostly in the range of 3-5 which proved to be somewhat tricky in the given conditions. On the other hand, very well bolted and lots of jugs so we’re definitely going to return! And – as there were no other idiots like us climbing in this weather – we had the entire wall just to ourselves!!!
The place itself is really nice, it’s just next to a nice looking waterfall (hence the name), 10 minutes leisurely walk from the parking lot.
Unfortunately no picture of the huge fat cat that was lying on the counter of a pub where we wanted to have dinner. I did not take the camera from the car and the place was so filled with cigarette smoke that we had a hasty escape and did not wish to return.
We arrived home fairly late but still had time for a cup of tea from our new lovely mugs! One of them (guess which one!) arrived in the post just a few days ago (after an adventure of its own) as a gift from Laetitia and Pete!!!! So now we have a mug with the name and another one with the picture of our beautiful border collie Bilbo.
Yeah! 😛 Rock climbing season is definitely upon us! 😀 Lets just hope the rain stays away and the sun shines lots.
I had no idea you’d only be addicted to rock for just one year – it’s great isn’t it. :star:
Oops, I meant to say, “You are very welcome, so glad the mug finally made it!” 🙂
The adventure of the Bilbo mug…. I posted it in Edinburgh and 5 weeks later it eventually arrived at its destination. We were sure it must have been lost, but no, it was just having an adventure round the world. I would love to know where it had been.
Yeah, there’s nothing like climbing! :star: And since I started I share your opinion about work … it’s amazing how our lives/interests can take a sharp turn from the moment we first put our hands on rock! It’s really like a drug and I’m definitely a junkie! 🙂
Bilbo’s face is soooo cute in the picture on the mug.
Wasserfall Klettergarten looks like a great place for a warm up in “extreme” conditions. Lots of bolts and close to the parking… a perfect combo, although ideally a cake shop at the parking would make it perfect. 😛
Well, if not a cake-shop there’s a “Wirtshaus” where I’m sure you can get some cakes as well! The place we finally had our dinner offered “Eierlikörtorte” (eggnog-cake) but we stuffed ourselves with Wienerschnitzel so we just couldn’t cope with it. One more reason to return!
Yeah, it looks as though that little wasserfall splitting the kindergarten would freeze on winter and might be interesting 😀
Looks like plenty of nice new bolts – you don’t see many in Britain. Tradition, you know :sarcy:
Yeah, looking at the frequency of the bolts it’s rather a ‘kindergarten’ than a ‘klettergarten’! 😆 By the way, I just can’t understand why there are so many bolts, especially when there’s plenty of natural protection as well 😕 But I’ve seen this quite often in Austria.
