Pete flew back to Blighty this morning, so me, mum and dad went for a tourist trip by taking the train up to Montenvers for a closer look at the Mer de Glace.
The train was ready to leave as we arrived at the station, so we jumped on and decided where the best views would be. It clunked it’s way up hill, at a leisurely 20km an hour, and we finally arrived 15 minutes later.
What a superb view of les Drus. I spied out possible routes and decided it all looked a bit too hard.
There were tons of people down on the Glacier, practising what-ever they needed to practice no doubt. We didn’t take the trip, or the walk, down. The parents were still a bit stiff from yesterday’s trip, but we did wander over to the hotel for a look and then stopped for a coffee at the café.
Shortly before we left a couple of Alpine Horn players started to do their stuff. It was a welcome to a huge group from a company called Huskqvarna. I think it was some company day out. They had all arrived with hired equipment (boots, harness, helmets, crampons, axe etc.) and were being taken in small groups on to the glacier. What a fantastic trip for them. Not many companies would do that for so many people – there must have been at least 50.
Anyway, the horns were a bit out of tune, but they were a bit of a laugh.

Just for your information, Husky (as the company is known in the trade) manufacture chainsaws and such like. Apparently their chainsaws have the (or one of the) lowest hand arm vibration ratings.
