Christmas Crag is just up and to the right of Black Crag, but unfortunately, the Borrowdale guide doesn’t give any approach times to the crags, and after 1/2 hour, we decided it was called Christmas crag, because like Father Christmas, it didn’t exist! (sorry Pete, but its true). When we found it though it was in a beautiful setting, an upper and lower tier (lower is a bit broken), and its remote nature was confirmed with a red deer grazing at its foot……
The routes are only short, but there’s a few that are worthwhile.
Anna and Sabiene climbed Happy Christmas (VS 4b), Christmas Pudding (VS 4c), and Christmas Groove (S), I was pleased to succeed on Christmas Pudding with Andy as it was my first route after the toe thing (I had to climb in my Freneys), and Sarah led Andy and I up Happy Christmas.
So what was left to make it a perfect Christmas?………….. That’s right a Christmas drink. We headed down to the Borrowdale Hotel and got excited about opening our presents………. (not really Pete, it’s June!)
Great pictures Grim. The midges were bad, but a great location, even though the walk in was longer than most climbers like!
….and great leading on Christmas Pudding Grim, though it was a bit like watching Douglas Bader getting into his plane!
Thanks Andy. Got the tin legs off for now giving my weary stumps a rest……………….
You are kidding! 🙁
Who the hell has been giving me presents every December 25th then? 😕
Sorry to break it to you like that Pete. Is it a strange old man who comes into your bedroom in the middle of the night? Hmmmm….. I have my suspicions
Awesome picture of Sarah on “Happy Christmas” by the way!!!
Me thinks it could be a CC competition contender?
