Another sunny day in the Chamonix valley, and another chance to get some cragging done while Britain suffered in the floods! 8)
This time we chose another new venue; Le Chapeau. These amazing granite slabs test your ability to stand on nothing and trust the friction of the rough granite to what felt like the ultimate limit of possibility. But as Paul says, “the trick to great footwork is strong fingers”, obviously my fingers aren’t strong enough…
On the walk up, we missed the the path and ended up at a lovely tea lodge where we stopped for refreshments. The views were fantastic.
The slabs were amazing and remided me of Tuolumne. There’s loads to do and I can’t wait to go back. We found some wild strawberries which were very tasty.
I thought the title referred to the thing on your head Pete! Where abouts is the crag?
😆 Yeah, that is a sun cap!
The crag is reached above Le Lavancher – on the path that leads up the east side of the Mer de Glace…
