It was a cold and overcast day at Leighton Moss. As first time visitors we were perhaps not too impressed with the noisy folk but at least we did see quite a variety of birds.
My father being somewhat of a bird specialist made identification far easier for me (most of the ducks look the same through a cheap pair of binoculars).
These included Teal, Mallard (of course), Wigeon, Little Grebe, Coot, Moor Hen, Mute Swan, Pintail, Gadwall, Shoveller, Grey Heron, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Red Breasted Merganser, Shell Duck, Lapwing, Knot, Great Egret (a rare visitor), Kingfisher, Long Tail Tit, Blue Tit, Robin and possibly a few others we have forgotten about.
Great Egret
We also spotted an earth star (fungi).
The piccy of the kingfisher is good. Is there enough detail in the picture to crop in for a “close up”?
Pete,
I’m afriad they were both taken at 12 x zoom so they are at full magnification.
Yeah, but aren’t they scaled for the web?
