ADSL Speed Test

ISPs are short selling us. Or at least hiding behind the term “up to”! Do you think you are paying for an “up to” 1, 2 or even 8mbs ADSL broadband service? Fact is, you probably don’t get anything like that bandwidth…

Check out your actual performance here and then complain to your ISP!
Click ‘Begin Test’ and compare your speed with what you were sold.

  1. Ian: if, like me, you have a 2mbs broadband service, you should get something like 2000 and 256!
I get 2600 and 360 during the day (a good result), but only about 450 and 200 in the evening when everyone in the South Lakes is online surfing…

  2. Ian, if your running at 741/240 you are way quicker than me at 102/100 πŸ˜₯

Pete, flash git (as usual πŸ˜† )

Tish, have you registered that domain name?

  3. 😯 No! πŸ™‚ It tells you how well your broadband is performing! πŸ˜‰
    If you have a 1 mbs service, that’s a great result, if it’s a 2 mbs service – complain!

  4. I am supposed to be on an “up to” 8Mbs line. Been using this test for several months and I have only once done better tha 2Mbs and my average is around 1.8. I have already complained to my ISP – its painful – they want you to try a new filter, connect to the main telephone line. Disconnect everything, re-install windows. I hate them and at some point it will be enough to actually do these things but I have better things to do with my life. I’d change supplier but I have no real expectation any other supplier would be any better.

  5. It’s nice to see that things are improving here. Managed nearly 5 meg tonight. 😯 I’ve found an interesting article in PC Pro (Jan 2009) that gives some tips to boost speeds. πŸ’‘

These look quite interesting and if anyone is interested, let me know and I’ll scan the article. But I’ll let you know how I get on….. watch this space ❗
