What a day. I needed to get out and get some more Wainwrights completed. The forecast wasn’t bad, so I decided for a few hills around ‘Above Derwent’. Looking at the map I thought that Outerside, Sail, Scar Crags and Causey Pike might make a nice little horseshoe walk.
The weather was nice so I popped up Outerside and continued on up Sail and to Crag Hill, before thinking it would be quite nice to take in Wandope and Whiteless Pike. At Whiteless Pike I looked at the time and realised I could also visit Knott Rigg (now that was a bit of a tough ascent after dropping all the way down to the valley floor) and Ard Crags. I was feeling tired now.
Well, I had to keep going or I would be stuck on the fells overnight. Dropping back down to the col between Sail and Ard Crags, another steep climb nearly finished me off. Carrying on up Scar Crags and along the ridge to Causey Pike the weather closed in and turned pretty nasty. The final grassy descent to the car by Farm Uzzicar was lethal in the wet.
So the total distance for today was 16 km, with 1600 m of ascent up 9 Wainwrights in 5 hours. I’m worn out and about to get a long hot bath. Pippa is also tired and not moved since we arrived home – yeeha.
Stunning pics Dave. Looks like the two of you had the hills all to yourselves. 🙂
Yeah, those sunbeams are fantastic!
