Hallin Fell and 5 bottles of bubbly

Thursday evening was the start of the Armstrong Watson bi-weekly walking season, but to start things off this year we had a special occasion. John Hunston, who organises the walks has undertaken to complete the Wainwrights within 12 months for charity. He started last may and last night was his final top; Hallin Fell. What a good effort.

Hallin Fell is on the south side of Ullswater, and only a short walk. John was joined by 44 friends and colleagues who all enjoyed sharing 5 bottles of champagne on the top.

It was a fantastic evening with some wonderful views back along Ullswater towards Sharrow Bay.

  1. It would have been a lovely peaceful evening in perfect weather (it was only chilly on the summit) by Ullswater… if there hadn’t been 45 people there! A good start to the AW Fellwalkers 2008 programme.

(AW is an accountancy firm 👿 whose HO is in Cumbria). It is only a coincidence that A Wainwright had the same initials!

John was supporting Hospice at Home West Cumbria – here is the link:

(well the address anyway, don’t know how to do links…)

  2. …That’s between 45 people, not just grim and me!!! Andy & Sabiene had the biggest mug. We all (that is the 4 of us not the 45) topped up in The Sun in Pooley Bridge afterwards.

I’m glad that next week’s AW ramble is a bit more local, near Thirlmere, on our patch. But I am always impressed how far people travel to partake of these walks; e.g., Lockerbie; occasionally even Richmond.
