A weekend with Aylesbury Climbing Club at Little Langdale had been committed to when the weather forecast was still pretty good so we were a little disappointed as the week went on and the forecast gradually got worse & worse. Anyhow just to prove you should never cancel anything based purely on the weather forecast we realised that to get any climbing in an early start was required. Someone in the bunk room helped us out but forgetting they had set their alarm for SIX AM 😯
Kay & John King joined us being the only other two ready early enough and we managed to be on the Rock by 8:30am. This was a fine climb and Fiona & I managed to top out just as the rain arrived on cue at 11:30, with John & Kay just behind, Kay unfortunately having to climb the final pitch in the wet. The nasty looking weather did not inspire us for further adventure so we wandered over to stickle tarn & down for beer & cake at the ODG.
Sunday was a total washout and after the obligatory gear shop in Ambleside we stopped off for tea & cake at Pete & Tish’s (thanks guys) before heading home.
Was good to see ya on Sunday! 🙂
Wish we had been fast and got our sleepy/lazy heads out of bed for an Alpine start beating the rain. 🙁
Yeah – Well done you two for getting up early and getting in a route. We are so BAD!
That’s a huge rucksack Fiona! Maybe leave it at the start and walk back round for it (and a drink/food) after the route?
We had planned a walk after the route rather than up then straight back down again. The idea was to climb as a way of gaining height for the day rather than simply to tick the route which would have made leaving the pack at the bottom a bit pointless. 😉
Ah – mountaineering – cool!
Huh, call that an early start?
The Wayfarers set out at 10pm the previous evening for the annual all night walk around the Langdale skyline (All except the President, who stayed wisely in bed 😉 )
Leaving the hut at 10pm; does that mean you don’t have to pay hut fees? 🙄
Hang on isn’t 10pm a LATE start 😕
Hey Pete, Scafell is a big crag 😮 You’d never have got up Botterills and off before that rain came, even with an early start 🙂
