A day at the Seaside

We had a long planned family trip to Swanage, but that wasn’t going to mean no climbing. Quite the contrary we took my brother-in-law and my niece (Emily) and nephew (Charlie) out for some cragging.

Before they arrived Fiona and I headed down to Subliminal and managed to climb Greasy Chimney (Vdiff) very “atmospheric” start – Fiona declared it just plain scary. Followed by the easiest route out High Street – no grade pushing – Fi wasn’t having a good day & I’m suffering from climbers (aka tennis) elbow πŸ˜₯ .

After that we met up with the Graham, Charlie & Emily for some fun sport climbing at Hedbury quarry were we sent them all up the Grade 1 (yes thats grade ONE) sport route “Very Ordinary Route” followed by the slightly harder Grade 2 Another Contribution. Everyone managed to top out both climbs before the light started to fail and we headed back for tea and medals.

  1. Ah, Swanage! Where it is always sunny πŸ˜€ and there are zillions of fab steep routes with the waves crashing atmospherically below (well sometimes). Some of my favourite routes are there and I would love to go back some time – maybe the CC will buy a hut down there????
