Avoiding the crowds in the Lake District on a bank holiday weekend rewarded us with the whole of Warton Quarry to ourselves. We started off on Plastic Iceberg, a tough proposition at the stated grade, E1, more like E2 5c we all reckoned!
And we finished on the excellent Third World – an amazing cracked slab followed by some really steep jamming to top out a rope stretching 50m pitch. Plus a little extra spice and excitement avoiding some suspect loose looking massive blocks!
Yeah, Warton is deserted these days. I seem to recall you went there about a year ago too ❓
Yep … http://www.sterling-adventures.co.uk/blog/2007/09/01/warton-warriors/ … it was good then too!
where is it?
Nobody knows, that’s why its always deserted 😀
HA HA! It’s just outside Carnforth, 30 minutes from us…
It’s good, but beware the loose rock at the bottom of many of the routes, and near the top of some. With all the rain we’ve had, who knows how safe some of it is.
