A while ago we commented on our balloon beds [and here]; the lightweight alternative to a Thermarest weighing in at only 85 ish grams! During the Rab MM we made this video. Richard’s words are rather random as he was busy multitasking – advising the next-tent-neighbour on the quantities of water required for an orange tablet based drink, to help him avoid getting cramp like he had done a few minutes earlier – a rather spectacular occasion!
Hooray! “And here’s one I made earlier!” So cool! π
An awesome demonstration! π A pretty amazing lightweight bed! I’m not sure they’ll catch on for mountaineering though, they don’t look too robust; it must be exciting when one of those balloons unexpectedly explodes in the night! π―
I have had one balloon pop on me – I think they are pretty robust! Why wouldn’t they catch on for mountaineering? … they provide you with 2.5 cm of insulation, they are comfy and can be classed as a gadget – perfect for mountaineers!

wow. I bet pete gets one!! π
Awesome!
Great for climbers – I notice the added advantage of finger strengthening exercises.
Not so great for high altitude – no energy for finger strengthening exercises.
Wow these are pretty cool. I’m also concerned about the strength of the balloons, but I guess if you have enough you’re not really putting that much weight on any single balloon. Now are these standard animal making balloons or are they designed especially for this purpose?
The balloons are ordinary 260Q’s … they don’t usually pop unless you blow them up too much and then don’t let any air back out. The balloons are much stronger than you would expect!
