More Limestone, with a very Long Walk-in!

When we woke up after last night’s dinner (and a few too many drinks  ) Wales was bathed in brilliant sunshine. After Saturday’s impressive horizontal rain, even though it was forecast to be much nicer today, it still seemed that it had to be an illusion brought on by our hangovers! The bitting cold soon cleared our heads though and made us sure it was real and that we must get out climbing somewhere in the sun. Hmm, but where? Terry and Vikki arrived at Ynys from their luxury B&B in Llanberis, and Terry had a plan … a long approach walk to help with the hangover, so Castle Inn Quarry was chosen…

It also offered the benefit of being on the way home to Cumbria.

Although cold at first, we soon warmed up when the sun popped out from behind the clouds again.

Terry immediately got stuck into what is reckoned to be the best single pitch grade 5 sport route in Wales. A bold claim! It’s certainly a great route with amazing “organ pipe” flow-stone features.

It almost seemed like Spain at one point – sunny blue skies and limestone sport climbing. :star:

Five routes later, it was a short day (see comment about booze above 😉 ) we finished on The Cakewalk and headed off home. We wanted to go via a café (for cake of course), but couldn’t find an open one, so the route The Cakewalk had to do…
