A trip around the Loweswater Fells

It was Liz’s Birthday and it was a good opportunity to test her fitness now that she’s aged …..

We started at Loweswater near Maggie’s Bridge and we headed for the steep ascent of Mellbreak. In fact it was easier than we both thought but perhaps a touch windy for some of the exposed edges.

We got some great views of Crummock Water and Buttermere..

We dropped down to the valley to the south of Mellbreak and I produced a a piece of birthday cake for Liz (but it was too windy to light the candle) and some jelly.

A brief ascent of Hen Comb with some fine views of the fells around before dropping back down.

And then it was along a fence line to Gavel Fell (in the low cloud), then it was Blake Fell’s turn, before finishing on Burnbank Fell, our fifth Wainwright of the day.

We covered nearly 11 miles and about 1100 m of ascent. A good day but perhaps not the most exciting of walks.
