New Year on the Costa Blanca proved to be much warmer than the UK. After a stressful incident at the airport with ropes – 2 out of 3 allowed through as hand luggage, the other refused resulting in an excess baggage charge of ยฃ80 [be warned] – we arrived at Benidorm caravan site, 3500+ vans. ๐ฎ
Monday we went to Marin via a wet Toix West, lots of slab climbing.
Tuesday saw us head north to meet expat AMC member Dave at Aventador. More slabs but steeper.
New Year’s eve we joined the hordes at Toix West. New Year’s day up to Echo 1 for Via Esther; 4 pitches of trad no bolts!
Friday saw us at Sella, probably the Costa Blanca’s most popular venue, followed by dinner at Molli 2 [under new management?]. Rain stopped play on Saturday, though no one seemed to care probably due to sore fingers and toes! Sunday was an early flight home to a very cold UK brrrrrrrr!
Hmmm ropes – of course you might try to hijack the plane with a 50m sport rope. ๐
Exactly what they said although the rope they stopped followed one they let through the same xray machine. A little inconsistent me thinks. ๐
The term they use is that it could be used as an ‘instrument of restraint’ ๐ฅ
BUT WHY ARE THE FIRST TWO ROPES NOT A THREAT??
Maybe they were pink, so looked a bit girly and unthreatening?
Well, I guess ยฃ80 excess baggage is (just) cheaper than a new rope! But, if it were a pink rope I think I’d have preferred to replace it – not a very “manly” colour…
No pink ropes here! and it was Bev who was stopped.
Does Bev look like the dodgy type?
Not really, Colin looks more threatening.
And did Colin’s rope go through okay? ๐
Aye in front of Bev’s rope. ๐
