What a beautiful day. I had considered wearing winter trousers; thank goodness I didn’t, because shorts would have been appropriate. With John, Annette, Scouser Dave (with whom it was a pleasure to talk film, theatre, and exotic food – he’s written lots of cookbooks) and a few people I had never set eyes on before, I went up Helm Crag, round via Calf Crag, Sergeant Man, and Easedale Tarn ticking off four Wainwrights….
Non-climbers scrambling on the hard bit
… and ending with a dip in Easedale Tarn:
Yes, it was bracing (= f******* freezing).
The day ended with a few leisurely pints of real ale in Tweedie’s Bar in the beer garden of the Dale Head Hotel, Grasmere. This doesn’t look particularly promising but it actually has a huge selection of real ales, some quite obscure and some old favourites e.g., Yates’s Fever Pitch >yum<
Great looking weather, not so sunny in south, we even had a heavy rain shower!
…and there’s no way you would have got me in that water! π―
Anna, good to see you learnt from your little hypothermia experiment in Red Tarn β
Agree with Pete about the weather, it looked very dark over the Lakes yesterday from Penrith and we had squally thundery showers running through in the afternoon – strange π
Obviously, the sun shines on the good and it rains on the wicked!
Apparently, the walk was the weekend before, but was only blogged this weekend. Makes much more sense now π
Oh Jon you shopped me!
You mean this Helm Crag?
‘Flarepath’ (VS) classic of the crag!
Yes but being on a WALK we just wandered past it down below (there was another ex-climber there as well as me)
You’re not an “ex-climber”, I have recent photographic proof here…
