This weekend Anna and I joined Andy, Sabiene and Arthur in Langdale, where they are staying this week in a small cottage. Saturday found us on the Fairfield Horseshoe.
It was hazy and a little overcast, but the sun gradually burnt through and it was HOT! As usual I didn’t take enough water and got a little dehydrated (solved later in the pub).
Its a great walk, and once the bulk of the ascent is done there is afairly level wander around the ridge. the only disappointment is the detour and descent to take in Stone Arthur. It seems odd to descend to one of Wainwrights “tops” but as Sabiene is detemined to do them all we had to do it.
We raced the final descent to reach the pub at Rydal , the Badger Bar for some much needed refreshment
They let walking boots in on that carpet?
I guess – but only when you buy beer made by a cat?
Looks like a fantastic weekend… and looks quiet too – no other people in the pictures on the hills and in the pub.
I must stop at the Badgers one day. It always looks inviting, but I’m always on my way somewhere when I pass.
It was busy on the hill actually but not horribly so.
Badger’s Bar was much nicer than I expected (due to whimsical name I thought it wd be v touristy). There is a lovely psnelled room with a 1679 fireplace and 1629 fireback.
Good beer (the cat one was anyway, I did not bother with the rest, as you would expect), good food, and a pub cat!
