On Saturday we joined John and Annette on the Mosedale Horseshoe. This was to be Annette’s final Wainwright in her attempt to get them all done in two years. (John had previously completed them in a year.)
The good forecast was for once correct, although there was quite a cool breeze on the tops, and fleeces were on and off more times than I can remember.
The pull up Yewbarrow was a lot easier than it looked from the road, and having gained the height we were soon on Red Pike and then Scoat Fell. A quick diversion to take in Steeple followed, and here we lingered for a while: the 360 degree views of the fells, the Solway, the Irish Sea, Morecambe Bay and the Isle of Man were really clear. On a day like this there is nowhere better to be than The Lakes.
From steeple it was a short hop to Pillar and Annette’s final top. Out came the Champagne and donuts : congrats all round.
The beginning of the descent was somewhat meandering until the effects of the bubbly had worn off!
The walk ends right at the Wasdale Head Inn…. yes, more alcohol!
In the evening, Anna and I hotfooted it to Sarah’s to catch up with Ben and Chrissie who we hadn’t seen for ages. A BBQ and more alcohol made for a very sociable evening and rounded off a great day.
Is that some sort of cake in the foreground of the last picture ❓
It’s a Gu chocolate souffle.
Luckliy Grim did not blog all his food photos.
What a great day for a long walk – amazing views all day, lovely and sunny but with a cool breeze for comfort. I had a super time.
Thanks to Grim for walking back to the the car whilst the rest of us imbibed beer. Sadly, the fact that we did not all walk back meant that John and I missed out on a swim in Wastwater.
Unfortunately the sun wreaked havoc on Grim’s bare legs which do not often come out on show: they went from white to pink – ouch.
Ouch! 😯
Good effort. :star: :star: :star:
Great pictures – I don’t know where you find the time to do all this stuff, but it’s a great way to re-live a wonderful day. Thanks for being there with us to share it.
We woke to heavy rain on Sunday so bailed out to see Andrew in Maryport and a bit of the blues festival – wonderful, especially as the sun came out later!
Excellent pix!
