That is the point I find confusing. It can be the main body of a dessert but is usually served with something (fruit  ), or it is served to accompany a dessert in the same way as custard. Is ice cream a condiment β
Hmm, yes, or what would you like to talk about, Jon? π
we often have ice cream as a dessert unless there is real dessert in the house and then we have it as a condiment to the dessert. That is, unless we have meringue and ice cream, because then the meringue is a condiment to the ice cream
Wikipedia’s description of a condiment would not apply to ice cream:
“A condiment is a relish, sauce, or seasoning added to food to impart a particular flavour or to complement the dish. Often pungent in flavour and therefore added in fairly small quantities, popular condiments include salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard, olive oil, and vinegar.
Usually applied by the diner at the table, condiments generally have the consistency of a thick liquid or paste and are served from a bottle, jar, or bowl. They may also be dry, such as a mixture of herbs and seasonings.”
Philosophical question: Can ice cream be classed as a cake β
Well, it can clearly be classed as a type of pasta!
Pasta for pudding – it’ll never catch on…
these questions are too philosophic for me, I would catch them all! pasta, ice, pudding, cake -no matter how it is classed if it’s tasty! :yum:
it’s a dessert….

as good as sticky toffee pudding – hardly! :yum:
Ice cream can be a main course, and not a dessert……….. if you eat 2 litres of it :yum: :yum:
I’ll be in Germany in a month’s time. Can I get directions to the icecream? Somewhere near Saarbrucken, I hope!
I think they do it every where in Germany… it’s mad but delicious.
Yes, that’s how we are ! π
Richard, you can get it everywhere in our mad country!
We’re still talking about ice-cream aren’t we?! π

That is unless it was chilli ice cream that had melted – I have tried this and I thought I had a sore throat before I realised what it was.

Odd that a German ice cream comes with a plastic spoon with Florida on it….
