Paul and I met in Settle for breakfast at the Ye Olde Naked Man Café. After we’d paid, Paul pointed out how the place had got it’s name – I’d been stripped bare – £6.10 for a bacon roll, a cup of tea and a glass of orange juice! 😮
It was a damp day – the previous night it had rained heavily all night, in fact when I’d left the Lake District it was still raining! But in Settle it wasn’t raining, but the ground was wet from when it had been! 🙁 It wasn’t looking good. But we soldiered on in search of dry rock. Our campaign took us to Foredale Quarry in search of some long sports pitches. Foredale looked amazing, but facing east meant all the rock was running with water. No climbing here today, but we will certainly be back in the dry. However, I did pick up this garden ornament… 🙂
Time was getting on, so after some scouring of the guidebook we selected Oxenber Scar. A nice little crag above the beautiful village of Austwick, although none of the routes were particularly inspiring looking. It was also a bit cool and a bit damp, but we still did a couple of routes. One of which, Pipsqueak, was an impressive little pitch that Paul dispatched in typical style, i.e. without much bother. 😉
As Paul said as we strolled back to the cars, “Any rock climbing at this time of year is a welcome bonus; far better than sitting in and watching the telly!” 😛
When I got home and saw the fork I thought some trick or treaters had left it behind 😯
… and I had avery nice surpise – Pete had made me a fantastic dinner – what a star :star: :star:
looks like blue sky………. it was raining in keswick , but seemed to be sunnier later on in Hesket Newmarket for Andy and Sabiene’s move. 😀
Is Pete OK Tish??? or have you traded him in as part of the Govt. Scrappage scheme……. cooking!! 😯 😯 whatever next!! He’ll find the cleaning stuff next , then the ironing board, then the sewing box… his horizons are limitless 😆
Cheeky bugger!
Austwick is a nice little place; I had a holiday there three years ago. Good walking locally too.
