I described yesterday in Bardonecchia as a powder day, which it was – maybe 5cm of fresh powder, enough to make the skiing nice, but not difficult. Today was a different powder day entirely. It was knee deep at times, well over 30cm where they hadn’t groomed in the morning. As a result, it was back to the classroom to figure out how to ski in deep powder! Fortunately, it was super light and fluffy, so pretty much perfect. In fact, the ski company rep described today as the best skiing all season.
Rachel did brilliantly. Our first run of the morning was on an ungroomed, untracked piste, and she handled it like she’d been skiing in powder all her life. It took me a bit longer to get my tele-turns sorted out in the deep stuff, but by the end of the day I just about had it sorted out.
It snowed all day, so we didn’t get great views or visibility. It was also very cold! It’s still snowing now, so tomorrow promises to be just as good, with the added bonus that the forecast claims we’ll get sunshine – the highest part of the resort has been closed today, so we’re looking forward to skiing that first thing!
I’m now counting down to my own unplanned unexpected ski trip ๐ ๐
Wow cool, you both look like pretty stylish skiers despite the poor vis!
Sounds great, enjoy…
