On a damp and drizzly Saturday in the South Lakes we drove up north to Borrowdale to check out the conditions. A hint of blue sky between the dark clouds gave us the impetus to leave shopping for new climbing shoes in Keswick and head for the rock.
It was still damp, and we were strangely tired after yesterdays jogget, so we thought Shepherds Crag was the obvious place to be.
It wasn’t too busy, but we migrated to our usual spot – North Buttress.
Adam was free, so the route was chosen for us. Done as a single long pitch, it is one of our favourite HVS routes at Shepherds and we probably climb it at least once every year..
Not in the mood for much else, we left after that. I still hadn’t found the perfect pair of new climbing shoes (oh yeah, there must be one pair out there somewhere), so I had to take in the shops in Ambleside. My favourite shoes, after 6 years of molding to my feet (or moulding judging by the smell!!!) are almost on their last legs and it’s time to look for a replacement pair.
Well, if you only do ‘Adam’ once a year, your shoes will last six years 😀
