The weather forecast for Sunday was looking fantastic for a day out in the hills, so despite my slightly weak ankle it was just too much temptation to get out for a run.
I popped in Tiso’s on Sunday morning, had a quick peruse of their Harvey maps and decided on the group of 4 munros sandwiched between Glen Lyon and Rannoch as they didn’t look too steep and formed a nice horseshoe for a run. After getting slightly distracted in Tiso I didn’t end up arriving at the car park till 1.30pm.
The drive up was stunning and I was actually super excited to get out the car throw on my hill shoes and set off running up through the forest towards Carn Gorm the first munro. When I arrived on the summit I was greeted with breathtaking views in all directions. It was one of those clear, crisp days where you could see for miles, I could see as far as Ben Nevis to the West and the Cairngorms in the east, and the mountains were really beautiful with a cupcake icing on the summits.
The remaining summits of Meall Garbh, Carn Mairg and Meall Na Aighean all arrived surprisingly quickly, I was having such a fantastic time running along the ridge and taking in the views that the summits just flew by. Of course it could also have something to do with the turbo boosting power of fangtastics, which my friend recommended to me as great hill food!
I was just cruising down the forest road and almost back to the car when I had to surmount a stile and my legs disgruntled by the change of activity decided to revolt and I got a bad attack of cramp. Once I managed to hobble back to the car it took me quite a while before I could persuade them that it was ok to let me put on my shoes and get in the car, they eventually decided to cooperate, but at least my ankle behaved!
It was a really amazing day, one of those days that makes you feel really lucky to live in Scotland – possibly the most beautiful country in the world. It is worth all the rain and dreich, misty days for the days like this!
Well, the nice sunny warm weather we had on Saturday obviously held on for you for another day – Sunday was bloody awful in the Lakes; mega wind, incessant rain, and freezing! Looks like you made the best of it too – a grand day out!
[ What’s the blue thing in the rocks in the second photo? Your sack? Perhaps a water bottle? It’s not litter is it?! ]
isn’t it the shadow made by the rocks, on the snow?
It was actually a bit cloudier further south and got clearer as I went North, so must have got the best of the weather.
I think Rachel’s right it is just a strange shadow effect of the rocks rather than litter, I had a yellow rucksack and I don’t remember seeing any litter.
Yes, now you say, and I look more closely, I think it is just blue-shadow on the snow with a line of sunlight. :good:
Wow, it looks fantastic, or should that be fangtastic?
What isa fangtastic please? 😕
They are sweets, sour and tangy sweets :yum:
Tangfastics?
Looks fantastic… and Scotland is getting the best of the wearer right now. 🙂
