Today Laetitia joined us, she’d been forced to join the team late due to work commitments (have I ever mentioned that work sucks?). This meant we didn’t get out until 12 noon. We waited for the free ski bus and grabbed the first one, regardless of destination, to maximise our time skiing. The first bus was bound for Les Houches…
Les Houches is a little lower than the main Chamonix ski areas. This meant last night’s dump of snow was already melting. Skiing the wet fresh snow was hard work! Every time our skis hit a patch of soft wet melting powder it was like our skis had suddenly been equipped with breaks. A bit like an emergency stop in a car, the brakes went on hard and your weight flew forwards over our ski tips. The best strategies seemed to be to find the steepest lines to help maintain speed, and to stay on an edge – as running flat meant more of the plastic ski base was in contact with the wet snow creating the breaking suction!
Legs really felt it today. 😯 … Hard work in the soft snow and my technique was suffering 😡
but you were part of the ‘orange team’, which is what really matters 🙂
