After the ice came the powder… no Nigella jokes here.
Saskia, Nick, James and Oli left this morning which has left a bit of a quiet gap. To fill that gap we first scattered all our climbing gear around the apartment so it could dry, then we did a bit of washing, then we sat around in the quiet, and then we went in search of the powder.
We knew everywhere would be busy. The quiet slopes of pre-Christmas, and pre-powder were a distant memory. The webcams showed that there were huge queues at most of the lifts. So we decided to stay local again. The recent snow meant that there was a chance we could ski down to the valley.
To take advantage of the powder we had to traverse across from the top of the Cornu lift, away from the piste and across a couple of mini avalanches. But it was worth it.
Despite all the recent snow, the rocks aren’t far from the surface and it was easy to clip the skis and take a face plant.
We took a risk on the return trip down to the valley. The top of Nants was in superb condition, but down at the bottom there were quite a few rocks and our skis are now showing the scars. But it was very quiet and the views beautiful.
And of course, an afternoon in the powder can only be complete by having yet more cakes. Thanks Nick for buying these amazing and delicious cakes. You must come again!
Can you bring some of the snow back with you, although I think at long last winter conditions are finally here in Scotland…
Never mind the snow – bring the cakes!
