One final instalment to the Chamonix ’22 trip and the journey home – back when Ian and I went out to France in June we stopped in a super cheap hotel in Calais the night before our early ferry back to Dover. We ate dinner in a simple bar in town and noted that the town was decked out with Tour de France paraphernalia. The Tour was clear visiting Calais…
Watching the Tour on the TV back home in July I noted the route went over a small climb at Cap Blanc-Nez. It looked lovely for a stop over in the van before our early ferry the next next on this trip.
Cap Blanc-Nez was a major stronghold in the Second World War … the artificial lake visible in the shot above was the location of the Batterie Lindemann which was capable of firing 406mm explosive shells over the Channel attacking Kent and Dover!
