The best day of weather was reserved for our first passion, rock climbing…
We’d made a bit of mistake packing for our ’22 adventure in the Alps – being so excited about the downhill mountain biking, getting the bikes and all that kit packed and ready to go, we’d forgotten to pack any climbing guidebooks! So when it came to climbing we had to think hard and select a route we could either do from memory or at the very least a venue we knew where there was a route we knew about that we could do. After some thought we came upon the beautiful Vallon de Berard with its easy approach (less than 45 minutes car to crag base) and longish (eight pitches) routes. We did think we might have to climb a route we knew (L’ile aux Razmokets) but we also knew there was another route there called Tête des Mesures. Which is what we climbed. Good job too, it’s a much better route – perhaps in part because it is more sustained with almost every pitch being 6a-ish…
