Leaving the luxurious house boat behind, we got back on the bikes and cycled a short 30km to the beach.
On the way we visited a coir weaving factory, and were not so fortified with a very curious cold but spicy curd drink.
Our hotel for the night was the Turtle Beach where we had the afternoon to relax and do nothing. But we’re not so good at that, so we swam in the beautifully warm Arabian sea. Eventually we succumbed the the relaxation.
This was our first hotel where there were other western visitors. I missed the feeling of being unique and special. But it was a beautiful place to stay.
Our final day on the bikes, Friday, took us along the coast to Forth Kochin, and to the beautifully historic Dutch Bungalow. This was a wonderful place, and once owned by someone called Letitia Perreira. I’m going to have to do some more research to find a little more about the history of this lady.
After a brief rest we had a guided tour of the historic town, and of course the famous Chinese fishing nets, which aren’t Chinese at all. Forth Kochin is a melting pot of many cultures, religions and languages. It is also very hot!
We also caught up with Vishal, the top man at Kalypso Adventures.
And for our final feast, well, I couldn’t resist. A huge Red Snapper.
And all of a sudden our amazing Southern Indian odyssey came to an end.
This cycling trip has been everything I could have ever hoped for in my first visit to this beautiful country. What an amazing end to the most amazing adventure. I feel so privileged have been able to enjoy this most beautiful country with its most beautiful people.
