Climbing mountains (big, and not so big).
Went back to Blea Water today, this time with Li'l Pete, again with the intention of doing Birkett's. Got a bit closer than last time, but still failed. Third time lucky perhaps?
...a days winter climbing in the Lakes scuppered by too much snow! Shouldn't complain though, blue skies all day, light winds and the place to ourselves - apart from the very friendly/hungry robin that followed us most of the way in.
With a forecast for cold temperatures and reports of good winter climbing conditions the previous weekend, Matt and I headed north on Friday night to see what we could find.
Finally we managed to meet up with our friends from Zurich for a nice and easy mountaineering route up the Grassen in the Berner Oberland region...

I remember going to the cinema when I was about 7 years old; whatever was on there was always a massive queue. In the end we were pleased just to get a seat. All of those cinema goers from my childhood turned up at Great End on Saturday............
After a leisurely start we took the lift up to the Aiguille du Midi and made the fearful descent down the ridge to the Col du Midi. Our plan was to acclimatise today in readiness for tomorrow's big adventure...
