Climbing Following on from our initial post about the fantastic slab climbing in Setesdal, here are a few more climbing shots…
This week we have come to a beautiful part of southern Norway, Setesdal. Setesdal isn’t very far from Rjukan, a place we’ve visited for ice climbing. It’s just a little south and just a little west, but still in Telemark country.
I'd arranged to meet one of my work colleagues, Chris, on Saturday to help him learn a little navigation...
We’ve come to Chamonix for the weekend for a quick fix of Alpine Rock adventure.
I reckon one of the more remote and wonderful Lakeland valleys is Eskdale. However, it's a longish walk to get there, one is out of sight of all sign's modern life such as roads, and there's hardly even any paths...
Two weekends of fine weather! I can’t remember when that last happened, I just hope – with every fibre of my being – that it can continue…
We had planned to go to Skye for the Spring Bank holiday, but Pete was still recovering from a bad cold and we didn’t feel up for the journey. Instead, the forecast was good for the Lakes, so we decided to stay at home.
After more than six months break - and a bit of back and waist problems in the meantime - I finally managed to get out on rock again! Could I have picked a more scenic location for the big occasion than Dürnstein in Niederosterreich? Well, probably yes, but certainly not as close to Budapest! Dürnstein is ca. 80 kms from Vienna, it's an old little village lying at the Danube, with impressive rock towers and a castle ruin which was built around the rocks.
As Ian’s post shows, Monday’s weather dawned very disappointingly! The wall-to-wall sunshine promised by the weather forecasters just wasn’t to be seen. We procrastinated for a couple of hours knowing that early starts are unwise for rock climbing at this time of year, thus allowing the rock to warm up.
