On Boxing day I went skiing with Uncle Pete and Aunty Tish in Brevent. Mummy, Daddy and Oliver wanted to practice a bit more on the blue slope, but I wanted to do something a bit more exciting.
This Christmas I went skiing in Chamonix with Uncle Pete and Aunty Tish. We arrived on the Sunday before Christmas and spent the first day at Planards to get our ski legs back.
After the ice came the powder… no Nigella jokes here.
We have long neglected the wonderful facilities of the Canmore Nordic Centre – pisted cross country runs of up to 30Km.
This year we have gate-crashed my sister’s Christmas holiday and joined them for skiing in Chamonix.
We’d come to Chamonix with the objective of climbing Mont Blanc on ski. But, the weather hasn’t really been on our side – we’ve had big dumps of fresh snow, thick cloud on the mountains, hot temperatures, and consequent massive slushy avalanches. Today there was no fresh snow, no clouds, no wind, and – can you believe it – blue skies! Having achieved little in the way of the ski touring we’d planned due to the weather, it was decided that a day in the Valleé Blanche would be fun – isn’t it always!
Today Laetitia joined us, she’d been forced to join the team late due to work commitments (have I ever mentioned that work sucks?). This meant we didn’t get out until 12 noon.
