With only a few hours of play before having to leave Chamonix to fly back to the UK we took the popular option of grabbing a few routes at Les Gaillands...
After getting up late, as usual, to a glorious sunny Saturday, and the obligatory trip to Snells to buy those really essential items we just can't live without, we left a hot and crowded Chamonix and made our way up to the cool of Vallon de Berard...

We had great plans today - catching the early telegraphique, ski across to the Tour Ronde, tick the North Face and ski the Mer de Glace... However, news of a fatality on that mountain the day before put us off somewhat...
Plan A failed today. We were headed for Chapelle de la Gliere but only got 10 minutes from the chair lift before we realised there was way too much snow...
We didn't know how much snow there would be after last week's heavy falls so we decided a good idea would be a trip to some of the rock climbing at Montenver...
We'd hoped to ski the Vallee Blanche this year but had thought we'd missed our chance. But Friday's fresh snow and Saturday's skiing practice set us up for one of the super classic off-piste descents of the alps.
We had intended to climb in the Aiguilles Rouges today, but when we arrived in Chamonix yesterday it was raining - a lot, which meant fresh snow up higher! So today's sports plan was altered to account for the fresh snow...
